Foster youth across the nation face unjustifiable obstacles to their education, too often rendering them ill-prepared for successful and independent adulthoods:

  • Fewer than 50% of foster youth earn a high school diploma
  • Fewer than 15% attend 2 or 4 year colleges
  • As little as 2% actually graduate from college

And yet, 70% of foster youth want to go to college!

New Visions created Fostering New Visions (FNV) to provide educational support and guidance to foster youth in order to reverse those unjust trends! We work with students starting in 6th grade, and continue assisting them through college.

The Fostering New Visions (FNV) provides Los Angeles and Ventura Counties’ foster children opportunities to excel by matching them with excellent independent and public schools, and providing year-round support services.

FNV networks with school principals, teachers, child-focused organizations, foster family agencies, social workers and children’s court-appointed attorneys to identify students and meet needs. FNV can support its students in the following ways:

  • Identifying school matches for foster youth
  • Guiding students through the application process
  • Providing students with school-related needs, such as books, supplies, technology, and activity fees
  • Working with partners to provide additional support services and programming
