Since May, 2003, Dr. Haizlip has been the Executive Director and Corporate Consultant for the new After School Arts Program (ASAP) of LA’s BEST, the major Los Angeles non-profit After School Enrichment Program which, in partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District and the private sector, provides a safe, secure and rich program of services and activities at 180 school sites, five days each week from approximately 2:30 to 6:00 PM, for 28,000 low income, inner city students.
From 2000 to 2002, Dr. Haizlip was Executive Director of The “I Have A Dream” Foundation of Los Angeles and Pasadena, CA. Prior to that, from 1996 through 2000, Dr. Haizlip was the Western Region Director of Communities in Schools, Inc. supervising Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Oregon, and Washington.
Valedictorian of Dunbar High School in Washington, D.C., he received a BA with Honors from Amherst College, where he majored in Latin, Greek and Classical Philology. He received both a Master of Arts in Teaching and a Doctorate in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He and his wife, Wellesley College alumna Shirlee Taylor Haizlip, have two daughters, both Yale alumnae.
